Stag Do Prague: The Honest Guide (2026)

Real costs, the best areas for nightlife, what to avoid, and why Prague remains one of the best value European stag do cities in 2026 despite getting more expensive.

Prague has been on the UK stag do circuit for over twenty years and the fact that it is still near the top of most lists in 2026 tells you something. Cities fall out of fashion. Prague keeps coming back because it genuinely delivers: a beautiful Old Town, a concentrated and walkable nightlife scene, Czech beer that costs a fraction of what it costs in Western Europe, and enough variety across bars, clubs, and activities to fill a long weekend without anyone running out of things to do.

It is not the bargain it was in 2005. Prague has got more expensive as it has got more popular and some parts of the city now charge prices that would not look out of place in London. Knowing where to go and where to avoid makes a significant difference to both the cost and the quality of the weekend.

Why Prague Works for a Stag Do

Three things make Prague work consistently well for UK stag groups.

The first is the setting. Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. The Old Town Square, the Charles Bridge, the castle on the hill. Most stag groups arrive expecting a decent night out and leave having been genuinely impressed by the city itself.

The second is the beer. Czech beer, particularly Pilsner Urquell and Staropramen served in their home country, is excellent and cheap. A half litre costs £2-3 in most bars away from the tourist areas.

The third is the variety. Prague has options across budget levels, styles, and activities. A group can spend one evening in a traditional Czech pub drinking cheap beer, another in a rooftop cocktail bar, and another in a club. The city accommodates all of it.

Getting There

Flights from most UK airports to Prague Vaclav Havel Airport run £80-150 return. The journey is around 2 hours from most UK airports. Jet2, easyJet, and Ryanair all operate routes from multiple UK departure points.

Prague Airport is about 30 minutes from the city centre by bus or taxi. The bus is cheap and easy. A taxi for a group of 4-5 costs around £15-20 and is worth it on arrival with luggage.

Book flights early, particularly for summer weekends and bank holidays. Prague is popular and prices rise with demand.

Where to Stay

Hotels in the Old Town and New Town areas run £80-110 per room per night on a weekend in 2026.

Wenceslas Square is the most practical location for a stag group. It is the centre of the nightlife area, has a wide range of hotels at different price points, and everything is walkable from there.

The Old Town Square area is more expensive and more touristy. For a stag group that is going to spend most of its time out rather than admiring the view from the hotel, Wenceslas Square is the better value choice.

What a Night Out Actually Looks Like

Wenceslas Square and Surrounding Streets

Wenceslas Square is technically a long boulevard rather than a square, running from the National Museum down to the Old Town. The lower half has the main bars, clubs, and late night venues. It is busy on weekend nights and the concentration of options makes it easy to move between venues without covering much ground.

The side streets off Wenceslas Square have some of the better bars that are slightly less tourist-focused and slightly cheaper.

The Old Town Square Area

Worth visiting for a drink and to see the Astronomical Clock and the square itself, particularly in the evening when it is lit up. The bars immediately around the square charge tourist prices. One drink for the atmosphere, then head to Wenceslas Square or the surrounding streets.

Traditional Czech Pubs

A proper Czech hospoda (pub) serves excellent beer at around £2-3 a half litre, simple food at very reasonable prices, and has an atmosphere that bars designed for stag groups cannot replicate.

U Fleku is the most famous traditional brewery pub in Prague, has been brewing its own dark beer since 1499, and is worth a visit. It is touristy and knows it, but the beer is genuinely excellent and the setting is unlike any other pub in Europe. Go early in the evening before it fills up.

Clubs

Karlovy Lazne on the riverbank near Charles Bridge is one of the largest clubs in Central Europe, spread across five floors each with a different music style. It is popular with stag groups and the entry and drinks prices are reasonable. Duplex on Wenceslas Square has a rooftop terrace and is a step up in style and price.

What to Avoid

The Old Town Square bars: The bars immediately around the Old Town Square are priced for tourists who are not paying attention. A beer can cost £6-8 in the same city where you can get an excellent Czech lager for £2-3 three streets away.

Unsolicited invitations: Prague has a well-documented issue with touts and strip clubs operating on a model that ends with a bill that bears no resemblance to anything mentioned on the door. This is less prevalent than it was a decade ago but still worth being aware of. If someone on the street is enthusiastically directing your group towards a bar or club, particularly late at night, stick to places you have found in advance.

Absinthe: Prague sells a lot of absinthe to tourists. Most of it is not traditional absinthe and is essentially just green spirits marketed at people who have seen Moulin Rouge. It is expensive relative to beer and the main effect is making the rest of the night worse. Drink the beer.

Activities Worth Doing

Beer Spa: Prague has several beer spas where you soak in a bath of warm beer (hops, barley, and yeast rather than actual finished beer) while drinking unlimited Czech lager from a tap next to the tub. It sounds like something someone invented for a stag do brochure but it is a genuine Czech wellness tradition and works brilliantly as a group activity. Costs around £40-60 per person for an hour.

Shooting Range: Prague has several shooting ranges offering group sessions with a range of firearms. Costs around £40-70 per person depending on the package.

Segway or Quad Bike Tour: Several operators run guided tours of the city on Segways or quad bikes. Good for a Saturday morning. Costs around £30-50 per person.

Go-Karting: Indoor go-kart tracks near the city centre. Good competitive group activity. Costs around £25-40 per person.

Prague sits comfortably in the mid-range tier of European stag do destinations. More expensive than Krakow or Budapest, significantly cheaper than Amsterdam or Ibiza. The food and drinks costs in particular are well below what a similar weekend in a Western European city would cost.

Prague Honestly: What to Expect

Prague delivers a consistently good stag do weekend for groups that approach it right. The city is genuinely impressive, the beer is excellent and cheap, and the variety of options means the weekend has shape rather than just being one long session on the same street.

The things that catch groups out are the tourist trap bars around the Old Town Square, the unsolicited invitations from touts, and the assumption that because Prague has a reputation for being cheap everything will be cheap. The cheap parts are genuinely cheap. The parts designed for tourists who are not paying attention are not.

Go with a group that wants a proper European city experience as much as a heavy night out and Prague will deliver one of the better stag do weekends on the circuit.
